Metroid Dread's Checkpoints Remind Us Of Marvel vs. Capcom 2's Character Select Screen!

Metroid Dread released on the Nintendo Switch recently. It's been some time, but Metroid fans finally get to see what happens with Samus after the events of Metroid Fusion.
Just like with Metroid Fusion, there are many checkpoints throughout Metroid Dread in which Samus can save at and receive instructions from a certain AI. Aside from that, there's something very familiar about these particular rooms.
In the center of the room is a gigantic metallic sphere. Throughout this sphere, there are many sections divided into squares.
It's just like the character select screen for Marvel vs. Capcom 2. Who could forget that unique screen that shows up before every match in that classic 3v3 fighting game?
Ktulu, an apparent fan of both the Metroid series and Marvel vs. Capcom 2, recently parodied this in the most perfect way possible. After Samus completed her usual task of uploading data, the metallic sphere transformed into the character select screen for Marvel vs. Capcom 2.
"Samus, to proceed to the next area you must beat me in a first to three." What a scene that would be...
