After Yuri was unveiled last month for King of Fighters 15, many fans were naturally expecting to get an answer fairly quick as to whether she'd be on the Women Fighters team or the Art of Fighting team, as she has deep ties to both of them. A few weeks later, the announcement of King seemed to solidify in most people's minds that the classic Women Fighters team would be back — after all, we already knew full well that Mai Shiranui was in the game.
As such, when Fatal Fury's leading lady Mai Shiranui was finally revealed in all of her glory in the latest trailer, it didn't come as much of a surprise. What did shock many fans, however, was that there was no team composition shown at the end, as there had been for Benimaru Nikaido, Chizuru Kagura and Terry Bogard's trailers, respectively. Based on what we know so far, this seems to tell us in no uncertain terms that these three lovely ladies actually won't be teaming up for King of Fighters 15. So what teams are they part of? Let's take a look at the past to try and figure out the future.
While the classic Women Fighters team consists of these three characters together, the team itself has actually seen its fair share of other members throughout the years. Kasumi Todoh, Chizuru Kagura, Blue Mary, Li Xiangfei, Hinako Shijou and most recently Alice Garnet Nakata have all been part of the team at one point or another. With the developer statement that team compositions will differ greatly from fan expectations, it's actually fairly hard to apply this to the Women Fighters team given how different it is.
We know now that it won't be the original '94 team, and while the implication is that we won't really be seeing King of Fighters 14 team compositions return too much in this game, we already know that they're not entirely off the table since Team Fatal Fury is still Terry Bogard, Andy Bogard and Joe Higashi — just like last game.
Looking at the characters through a historical lens, Mai has traditionally been the leader for the Women Fighters team, with King of Fighters '99 being the only time she was on a different team (this year, the Women Fighters team consisted of Blue Mary, Xiangfei, Kasumi and King while Mai joined the Fatal Fury team).

Out of the three, Yuri seems to have the most time away from the team being a frequent member of the Art of Fighting team, her home series, together with her brother Ryo Sakazaki, quasi-love interest Robert Garcia and occasionally her father Takuma Sakazaki. King has had a stint in the Art of Fighting team as well, though she's a much more rare member of said team than Yuri is.
Looking at the trailers so far, though, there seems to actually be a hint about who might be the outlier here. Looking back at their trailers, Yuri and Mai actually fight on the same two stages during their videos, with one of them being one of the first stages we saw for the game and the other being the Pao Pao Café, a classic Fatal Fury location.
King on the other hand fights partly in the Pao Pao Café location as well but also in a remake of the South Town Park stage, King's very own stage from Art of Fighting 2. The stage choices could of course mean nothing, or simply be there because this stage is obviously heavily related to King herself, but the fact that she's in an Art of Fighting location also makes the mind wander slightly.
As an Art of Fighting character, it's entirely possible that King has returned to the official team instead of Yuri this time around, or it could even mean that there are multiple Art of Fighting teams if they want to fit in Ryo, Robert and Takuma. If this is the case, Mai, Yuri and King may all be on three entirely separate teams. The current roster team situation as it stands is that three full teams are entirely confirmed — the Hero Team consisting of Shun'ei, Meitenkun and Benimaru, the Sacred Treasures Team consisting of Kyo, Iori and Chizuru and the Fatal Fury team consisting of Terry, Andy and Joe.
K' and Leona Heidern were revealed in the initial trailer, but haven't received their character trailers yet which leaves us with Yuri, King, Mai and Yashiro currently shown in character trailers but with undesignated team situations. This means that without countingh K' and Leona we're likely looking at three different teams that are currently partially unveiled unless Yashiro has suddenly decided to run in very different circles than he's been previously known to.
All joking aside, with Yashiro's situation being fairly certain, the current speculation game revolves around the situation of these three leading ladies and there team situation.
Personally, I do think that two of them are still on the Women Fighters team and that King is the outlier and likely part of the Art of Fighting team this time around for a change. There's no telling who'll be revealed in tomorrow's trailer, but it's undeniable that the next few weeks will be very interesting as SNK keep us guessing.
As for personal guesses for the last Women Fighters member, I do think that Alice likely proved popular enough for SNK to consider bringing her back again. While I'm still holding out hope for May Lee and Hinako to come back as well, I'd imagine that if they do, they'll be on different teams than this one.
