Combined with the One-Winged Angel mechanic, Sephiroth's Octaslash up special is one of the most damaging moves in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. However, professional players have also figured out ways to use Sephiroth's Octslash special to obliterate stocks against recovering opponents.
During an intense Smash World Tour NA Northeast Ultimate Online Qualifier set between Ned's Sephiroth and Mr. E's Lucina, Ned was able to pull off an amazing play with Sephiroth's Octaslash to take a game in a situation where he was close to losing.
Though Sephiroth's sword, the Masamune, clearly gives him a reach advantage over Lucina's blade, the Parallel Falchion, Lucina's superior frame data and rushdown qualities were giving Ned some issues. Inevitably, Ned found himself in a situation where both players were down to their last stocks, but Ned had already accrued 116% damage before he could inflict any damage on Mr. E's last stock.
Thanks to the damage multiplier, speed multiplier and extra jump that comes with Sephiroth's One-Winged Angel mechanic, Ned was able to land four neutral aerials and a back aerial for 65% damage in a single sequence. With Lucina now off stage, this situation all of a sudden appeared to be a winnable one for Ned.
While Mr. E attempted to drift back to the stage, Ned decided to go for an extremely high-risk play by going off stage to edge guard Lucina. In response, Mr. E air dodged in hopes of getting past Sephiroth's attack.
Unfortunately for Mr. E, Ned read this and went for a downward Octaslash. It's important to remember that Sephiroth's Octaslash always sends the opponent in the direction that he's facing. In this situation, Ned had correctly positioned Sephiroth to face towards the left blast zone.
Though Ned came dangerously close to the bottom blast zone by doing this, the knockback from Sephiroth's Octaslash ended up being too intense for Lucina to survive long enough. Needless to say, it was an amazing comeback to behold.
