How good is Street Fighter 5 now, and what does it mean for Street Fighter 6?

While it certainly didn't start out with a ton of momentum, Street Fighter 5 kept its head above water and evolved into a product franchise fans have widely deemed successful.

We actually ran a poll on Twitter recently asking audiences to rank the latest Street Fighter entry and were somewhat surprised by the results thus far (which you can see below for yourself). Why bring this up now? With Street Fighter 6 almost certainly on the horizon, one has to wonder just how much of Street Fighter 5 will spill over into it's successor.

Street Fighter 5 was slated to receive developer support up until 2020, but plans don't always play out as expected (especially when a global pandemic and a changing of the guard at the head of Capcom's fighting game division occur) and thus we have an unexpected fifth season with new characters, new balance, and a new mechanic.

This has brought the game to a better place than it's ever been in and, while it surely isn't perfect, audiences seem to be appreciating it more than ever. Given the fact that Capcom has finally found a strong stride here, one would have to imagine they'll be carrying some of this momentum over into their next entry.
