Director of King of Fighters 15 explains what SNK's plans are for DLC beyond the first 12 characters

SNK intends to release 12 DLC characters for King of Fighters 15 by the end of 2022. Team 1 will consist of Team Garou's Rock Howard, Gato and B. Jenet and will release at some point this month. Following this, Team 2 is made up of Team South Town's Geese Howard, Billy Kane and Ryuji Yamazaki which is scheduled to release in May 2022. Both teams are being packaged together to be part of Team Pass 1.

Another six characters are planned to be revealed and released by summer and autumn 2022. But will be there be DLC for the game beyond these 12 fighters? An interview with Eisuke Ogura, one of the directors for King of Fighters 15, that was held by GamingSym seems to indicate that SNK has plans on what to do next.

"At the moment, the goal is to release 12 characters by the end of 2022," stated Ogura. "After that, we will look at fan reactions as well as other factors to decide what we do next."

Based on this comment, it sounds like SNK is open to adding whoever is in demand. This seems to indicate that King of Fighters 15 is somewhat intended to be a game that really caters to the fans.

As of right now, there aren't any guest characters that are playable at the moment. However, it seems that even this is a possibility that could be considered in the future.

"We saw Terry in Smash or Mai and Kula in Dead or Alive. Can we expect KoF to send invites to non-SNK guests for DLC?" asked GamingSym.

"Crossovers are great fun," said Ogura in response. "I would love to see more of them join the fight."

This is notably a very brief response on the part of Ogura. It's difficult to say for sure right now, but it's entirely possible that something like this could already be in the works.

Many fans have played around with this idea of there being a "Team Guest" or something like that. A team like this wouldn't necessarily need to consist of guests that all hail from the same third party company though.

Some time ago, Yasuyuki Oda, Producer of King of Fighters 15, directly commented on the possibility of Kim Kaphwan. Based on Oda's wording, Kim could be part of the last six characters released in 2022, or part of some future DLC pack.

"We will review requests for various characters including Kim during the planning process," said Oda back then. "As Kim is a highly popular character, we will do our best to make it a reality. Currently, the roster for the first year of has been finalized, additional characters will be determined later."

In any event, it seems that Ogura is confirming what Oda said about there being additional characters beyond King of Fighters 15's first year of DLC. We'll just have to wait and see how things unfold.
