'Athena is known for changing up her outfit with nearly every KoF'

Athena Asamiya is the latest character revealed for King of Fighters 15. Though fans were expecting her to team up with Kensou and Chin again to form Team Psycho Soldier, SNK shattered all expectations and decided to pair her up with Mai Shiranui and Yuri Sakazaki to instead form Team Super Heroine.

A statement from Tomohiro Nakata, King of Fighter 15's lead designer, was recently released about SNK's psychic pop star. In this statement, Nakata reveals why Athena's look has seen such a drastic change, but longtime King of Fighters fans are certainly already aware of the reason.

"Athena is known for changing up with nearly every King of Fighters game, and this time is no different," said Nakata. "I designed her outfit around traditional Kenpo practitioner clothing, while keeping her outline and accessories in-line with pop idol themes. She's also sporting a new haircut, meaning her overall look has changed drastically."

Nakata then began to talk about Athena's move set in King of Fighters 15. As seen in the trailer, Athena now has two different types of projectiles that can be used.

"She now has her Psycho Shoot ability back, so players can use that and Psycho Ball for some extra fun," continued Nakata. "Some of her far-proximity normals are now cancellable, allowing Athena to have even more versatility."

Finally, Nakata then mentions how her Climax has changed. It seems that the King of Fighters 15 developers wish to emphasize Athena's status as a pop star a little more this time.

"Her Climax has been completely redesigned, showcasing the bombastic abilities the super idol Athena is capable of," stated Nakata. To go along with Nakata's statements about Athena, a sketch of the character has been provided.
